Community Update: Gov Budget to be Released Friday, January 10, 2025

Governor Newsom will release the full 2025-26 state budget on Friday, January 10, 2025 with a briefing led by the Department of Finance. Once released, the details will be located here. EveryChild California will send out a detailed budget analysis once the administration releases more specifics.  

Governor Newsom previewed “the toplines of his 2025-26 budget proposal” on January 6, as part of his ongoing statewide California Jobs first tour. Newsom stated,” With a balanced budget and key investments maintained for the upcoming fiscal year, we are well-positioned to continue the forward momentum we have created. California remains the standard bearer for our nation, and we’re looking forward to another strong year ahead.” 

While Governor Newsom gave few details about the proposed spending plan, he touted progress on some issues, including Transitional Kindergarten which is now “fully funded”. In November, the Legislative Analyst’s Office (LAO) released its annual fiscal outlook, anticipating a roughly balanced budget for 2025-26 with significant deficits thereafter. Legislative leaders, including Senate President pro Tempore Mike McGuire and Speaker Robert Rivas, released responses to the LAO outlook.
